ENRIQUE'S AMAZING STORY
HONDURAS, KENTUCKY, ATLANTA: It truly took a village of Predisan friends from all
over to save Enrique Paguada from a life-threatening infection and help him walk again!
Enrique Paguada's long journey began when a drunk driver hit him on his motorcycle in Catacamas. His leg was crushed and broken, and lack of sufficient care resulted in the amputation of his leg below the knee. But with that, Enrique's troubles had only begun.
Months later, Enrique was at Predisan's Good Samaritan Clinic before his mother had surgery last winter. Dr. Amanda Madrid realized that Enrique's amputated leg was terribly infected, and if untreated, he could die. Amanda prevailed on Dr. Chad Eustis of Corbin, Ky., part of a surgical brigade from Jackson Healthcare, Atlanta, to clean the infected wounds. But both doctors realized Enrique needed care unavailable in Catacamas.
Through a series of amazing and providential events, Dr. Eustis and his wife Dr. Elaine Eustis took Enrique to their home and their hospitals in Corbin. Baptist Regional Medical Center and Oak Tree Hospital, the Eustis family, and local doctors and nurses brought Enrique back to health and into their hearts, providing free care, housing and services.
Jackson Healthcare helped with transportation and other costs, and Amanda brought together documents, people and resources to help it happen.
Today, Enrique is well, he walks with a prosthetic leg, and is home with his loving, Christian family. And, he is volunteering at Predisan to express his gratitude!
In Kentucky, Governor Steve Beshear and the hospital threw a festive party to celebrate their role in this great story. There, the governor declared Amanda an official Kentucky Colonel!
Watch out Colonel Sanders!
God moved in many ways to bring Enrique back to Catacamas - healthy and walking.
Sincere thanks and gratitude to all who played a part!
