The Healthy Communities program is the heart of Predisan’s holistic approach to improving the spiritual and physical, social, economic and environmental health of the many communities we serve.
Functioning through a contract with the Secretary of Health and in coordination with the community, Predisan staff oversee primary healthcare through its network of health centers. With specific focus on promoting prenatal, infant and maternal care, trained attendants and healthcare professionals closely follow mother and child to ensure healthy delivery and postnatal care.
As part of our holistic approach, we also encourage the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices, counseling, nutrition and cooking classes, gardening and environmental education, improving sanitary conditions as well as activities that decrease the incidence of water-borne diseases.
Working in the areas of Catacamas, Culmí and the mountainous region of Cuyamel, Predisan strives to grow effective, community-based healthcare through the Healthy Communities Program. Our goal through this program is simple: to promote wellness and bring hope to the communities we serve.
Healthy Communities In Culmi
In 2014, Predisan expanded the Healthy Communities program to serve the community of Culmí with health and maternity services. Covering 1,129 square miles, Culmí has a population of 33,000 people and is part of the largest surviving area of virgin tropical rainforest in Honduras. This beautiful region remains relatively undeveloped and is home to the indigenous Pech and Tawaka populations – communities that continue to live in extreme poverty.
As a marginalized community with a lack of healthcare resources and high maternal and child mortality rates, Culmí provides ample opportunities for Predisan to expand our services and compassionately serve a new population in the name of Christ.
